The natural world is governed by certain principles – to survive and prosper people must understand and respect those principles.  Wine begins with farming, and our philosophy is to start with the best possible fruit and let the natural characteristics of the land and climate shine through.  We target cool climate vineyards applying natural farming practices to maximize true expression and character of place.  Fates' Lieutenant takes inspiration from the sea, and our wine program emphasizes coastal growing regions.  We seek to capture the complexity and personality these cool, coastal vineyards can transmit through the natural chemistry of vinification. 

 

Our goal is to create wine of impeccable balance and structure in tribute to the remarkable lands and people that nurture them.  We target harvesting grapes at an optimal state of ripeness to yield a finished wine with low to moderate alcohol and ample verve and acidity.  In the cellar we practice as little manipulation as possible - maximizing native yeast fermentation, macerating gently, applying minimal sulfites, and avoiding any other additives.  Our winemaking is based upon deep respect for the lands, farming, and people, and we believe you can taste this in every bottle.
